So, is that video not conclusive proof of the value of winter tyres during winter?????
UK drivers are just not used to the concept of having a summer set and a winter set of tyres.
They will argue that it costs more money, money they can't afford. Well, if you just think about it for a second you'll see it costs little or no more than have one set.
For example:Mr average drives 15,000mls pa going to work and back, shopping and general running around.
He does 7500 miles between 01/04/ and 01/10 and 7500 between 01/10 and 01/04. So the same mileage.
So he does 7500 mls on his summer set and 7500 on his winter set, so what is the financial effect?
He has to have two set of wheels (2nd hand Disco wheels £100) and he has to lay out for the winter tyres.
As you can see the 15,000mls is spread between the two sets so no extra cost for the tyres, just the wheels.
What are the advantages? Huge increase in safety and security.
So to summarise, Winter tyres are not just about driving on snow or ice - they are about driving in cold weather ie 7°C and lower.
