Recently bought a disco 1 and its really thirsty compared to me old one.
I have taken in consideration it has off road tyres.

Its a 1996 300 tdi and has had a recent service.
On £20 of diesel it returns me 60 miles on normal local driving.
Somebody suggested it might need tuning/ tweaking.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Mo :)

You cant really judge from £20 gets me 60 miles unless you brim the tank.
But also bear in mind £20 is only just over 3 gallon.

As ruffday says you need to brim the tank, reset trip meter then run it until the tank is low. Refuel and note how many litres to brim it again and mileage on trip meter then work out mpg and report back.

3 gallon in our 300TDi will go around 28miles/gallon, round the houses and 35miles/gallon on a run... but we drive with a very light foot and are lucky enough to live with good roads and easy access to motorways... that's 90miles best-ish and just over 100miles ish ...

regular servicing helps ... :)

How much have you allowed for the tyres? My D2 was giving me about 24mpg on some Maxxis AT's (can't remember the exact size). Swapped them for a set of Pirelli Scorpion 235 70 16's and the consumption immediately went to 29mpg.
Can make a hell of a difference.
