So over the past few months i've been welding away on my 1996 Disco 300tdi with the battery disconnected. Finished all the welding now so connected all the doors back up and went to connect the battery again. Soon as the wire touches the terminal the alarm sounds off. Tried using the fob (2 button) to turn the alarm off but nothing is working.

In the end i unplugged the siren to stop the noise but the hazards were still going. I can start the engine and it fires up straight away which is confusing me somewhat because i though the immobiliser should stop this from happening. Since the engine was running i moved it on and off the drive a couple of times with the hazards still going then all of a sudden the hazards stopped.

Central locking works fine but now when ever i try to plug the siren back in it sounds off again.

Can anyone help with this odd situation?

Have you tried putting it on there and doing it up then leaving it alone ?

Disconnected the battery, plugged the siren back in then connected to the battery again. Alarm goes of straight away without the hazards flashing.

Currently my alarm ECU is zip tied at an angle to the rest of the cables because the brackets have snapped. Not sure if this the problem but i believe theres an inertia switch in there?? Could be tripping it out. Only problem is i cant remember where the ecu box should sit...

Starting at the beginning:

Did you follow the procedure in the Owners Handbook for disconnecting the battery ?
i.e. turn the starter switch 'on' and then 'off' and then disconnect the battery within 15 seconds.

Possibly the BBUS has been activated by disconnecting the main battery (or battery going completely flat) or the BBUS was disconnected without flicking the ignition switch ON/OFF and then unplugging it within 15 seconds.
So first thing to try is reconnect the BBUS and then turn the ignition switch to position II.
That should reset and silence the BBUS.

If not we will think some more !!!!

My battery packed up 12 years ago so from then no need for this procedure "turn the starter switch 'on' and then 'off' and then disconnect the battery within 15 seconds" when disconnecting the vehicles battery as all that does is stop the sounder sounding.

So, hazards will still flash after the sounder is disconnected, also the alarm condition will time-out after around 30 seconds that's also normal.

With your starting I assume u had the fob near the ignition switch so u remobilised the engine, without the fob the engine would be immobilised.

If the alarm is still sounding when the vehicles battery is reconnected with the doors and bonnet shut press the unlock button and turn the ignition switch to position II, that's assuming there's not a fault with the system.

Would the "test procedure" found on the RAVE CD - i.e. the release bonnet switch, turn ignition on, open drivers door, ignition off then on, work do you think ?

Don't know I've never had the need to try it, but should do, it's very straight forward and detailed in RAVE for both the D1 systems..
