I have seen a roof rack for sale not too far away from me (although not close enough to go and try it) but the seller has advertised it as being off a Disco 2 and has no idea if it would fit a Mk 1. It is a gutter mount and looking at other roof racks many seem to fit both 1 & 2 series.

Is there any difference in dimensions between the 2?

I'm pretty sure gutters are the same on both D1 and D2.

As said above D1 and D2 will take the same racks all dimensions are the same.

However the D1 cross rails for the fixed bars will not fit the D2 as the ends are not the same fittings.

Thanks, have placed a bid on the said roof rack and will see what happens.
