On my TD4 Freelander I have found the plug that you can remove to add some oil to the differential, but how do I remove it please. Is it a bolt or some other type of fitting and what tool would i need to use?

Sounds a bit stupid, but I cant seem to see it clearly under the TD4. I have a socket set. I know that it is a screw fitting and have looked in the manual, but it just says to remove it to add oil or check the levels.

Thanks

Phil

If you don't know if it's ever been changed then suck out the old oil and replace with fresh while your there ?

Better to remove the rear cover and give the inside of the diff as good a clean as possible. This way most of the ****e is cleaned out...more than can be removed with a syringe.
Reseal the cover with RTV silicone sealant and fill with nice clean fresh oil.

Thanks everyone, I will be doing this job when I have some time off work in the next coup[le of weeks, but really appreciate your replys.
