Ive just been out to my 1995 300tdi es, i was messing about with the Diff lock control by the gear stick.
It was really hard to move from H to L an but it went in ok, is this normal or is it because of lack of use.

Also there isnt a diff lock light on the dashhboard, even though i did lock the diff, would the light Not coming on mean there could be a problem driving in 4 wheel drive when off road. Is there anyway i can test it to see if the 4x4 is working without taking it off road.

Many thanks

Thanks batenburg,

i will do that, as for testing the 4 wheel drive do i have both wheels of 1 side off the floor and try to turn them? and do i have to have the engine running or not.

If your driving a disco of any flavor, it is full time 4x4.

The diff lock will only lock the center differential, so with the gearbox in gear, the engine off, one side jacked up and the diff locked you should not be able to turn a rear wheel. But if the diff is unlocked you'll get the front wheel to rotate.

:D Or engage diff lock, then drive it in tight circles on a car park as fast as you can... if an axle snaps, the diff lock works!!!

You have to have the engine running for the diff lock light to come on and somtimes actualy set off for it to come on, same again when you take it off, should go off when you set off again!

Cheers for the replies, ive got underneath it and give it a good spraying with WD, ive now mastered it i get it into low range and can lock the diff and the light comes on.

I didnt know the discovery was full time 4x4..
