I have got a rover axel diff guard from paddock (part number Pm121). When I have tried to fit this to my defender it seems to be to small and not exactly the same shape as the diff. Has anyone else had this issue and how did they get it to fit?

First question is whether you have ordered the correct part, what model & year is your vehicle and are you fitting it to the front or rear?

• Series 2 & 3, Defender, Discovery 1, Range Rover 1986-1994, Range Rover to 1985

It is a 1998 defender and I am trying to fit it to the front axel.

Hmmmm, not a lot of scope there for it being wrong. I don't have one fitted myself but I know they have to be a tight fit otherwise they can get knocked off.
You say it is not exactly the same shape, any chance of a photo?
I don't suppose there is some obstruction around the edge of the pan, has a replacement been (badly) welded on at some point, have you removed the clamp bolts from the new guard to let it spread?

Two photos, the pan looks all ok I tried giving it a few taps this a rubber hammer but didn't want to hot it too hard.

If its a 90 does it fit the rear axle?

Looks a bit squashed to me, not tall enough but slightly too wide, I suspect that with some manipulation it could be made to fit.
As above, have you checked it against the rear axle?

Time to fetch a bigger hammer and HIT IT and a bit of wood if you don't want to mark it

Have you tried to measure it top to bottom and side to side to see if it is round?

Thanks for all the advice. As thought the guard is about 15mm off being round. Does anyone have any ideas of the best way of bending it into shape. As it was design and build to withstand impact just hitting it with a hammer is not going to work

It will only be mild steel, its only job is to protect the thinner domed diff casing, so does not need to be massively strong.

Take it back to Paddocks and wrap it around the managers neck.
