Massive help needed pls. 94Disco, diesel.
Went for a bit of a bimble o/r up some mountain tracks, nothing nasty but steep all the way, Low ratio using 1,2,3 gears all the way up and 2nd gear down. No problems.
Back on the highway heading home, uphill, High ratio in 3rd gear, no apparent problems. Popping/thud noise from underneath/centre of vehicle - slight grinding noise from underneath/front/centre. Lost power/vehicle slowing, thought the Diff Leaver had jumped to neutral (this has occurred a few times in the past, but only when moving off and only when I first the bought the vehicle 7months ago). Stopped the vehicle in lay-by, re-selcted High ratio and 1st gear, let the clutch up and nothing but the sound of props turning!! Imagine the look of Noob fear that wandered across my face.
Locked the Diff in High ratio and fearfully made my way the 3miles home with out further problems. Put the vehicle in High ratio - not Diff lock - selected 1st gear and released the clutch then got out and looked underneath.. front prop-shaft was turning, the rear wasn't moving, no unusual noise.
Please please can anyone help explain what has happened and suggest a solution that doesn't involve hammers or blue-tac.
Fitted Bearmach 3" springs and Pro-comp 9000 shocks all round 3months ago, this changed the angle of prop to diffs.
I am a Noob, feel free to laugh but pleeeeease help
)))
