Check the oil & coolant levels. Does the oil smell of diesel? Is the temperature ok after the engine has warmed up?

...initially I was thinking about those seals letting fuel into the sump. Sorry I don't know - bad injector seals can cause rough running too I think. Hopefully someone with expertise will give you some pointers...

I had seals go after after a few months, i used pattern one instead of genuine, moron!"
I had grey smoke, an oil dribble coming from the front seal, and it took an extra couple of turns to get her started, i reckon i was getting a back blow of pressure from the combustion chambers or something
At 25 quid for a set of LR seals and washers, its a cheap start, make sure the bottom of the injector holes in the head are spotless, i made up a rag on a bit of dowel to be sure

Have a similar problem I had a diesel knock before I had the injector seals replace with LR seals but I had the seals replaced for a different reason (bad starting and engine kept cutting out) which cured my problem.My engine still has a diesel knock but only sometimes on start up but after a few miles it runs fine my garage told me before I had the injector seals replaced that its probably over fuelling and unless I want to spend loads of money its best to just live with it but it may not be the same as yours as I don't get grey smoke hope this helps

So.... is this when the engine is cold? - If so, all the TD5s sound rattly, then it goes away as the engine warms. Not sure on the grey smoke though - may just be oil deposits, bit of diesel from having been stood...

Tobytess that is exactly the same as what I have just been through injector seals new harness new pump new FPR and a service that's why I am a bit miffed about this new problem

It happens hot or cold it's almost like it's not combusting properly on some cylinders
Might just have to live with this for now as I am saving up for MOT next month :-(

can you not get it hooked upto a code reader? it maybe an injector over fuelling,
when I said I had my injector seals replaced I forgot to mention that I also had the fuel pump replaced a new injector harness and a new fuel filter the garage also scanned everything and found nothing wrong and the same as you it also happens when its cold and also when its hot its annoying but as I said before I just ignore it
