Don't know about Ford or Cummins, but I know I've seen ads in one of the LR mags, for big GMC/Chevy oil burner conversions, 4.6 litre I think. Can't remember who did it, and can't put my hands on the mag at present but will keep looking.

Samauri conversions somewhere in Devon used to do kits using the GM 6.2/6.5 v8 diesel.The engines seemed a bit variable in terms of reliability,cold starting was always an issue.Transmission life could be an issue too.

Plus they weigh around 295kg compared to the Rover's 182kg!
I have driven a Chevy blazer powered by the 6.2, awesome grunt & great exhaust noise but then that was a factory built vehicle.

Still haven't found the ad I referred to, but still looking.
Did find quite a bit on US sites about GM 6.2/6.5 into Series and Defender so RR shouldn't be impossible, but they all say leave earlier 6.2 alone and go for 6.5. There are also quite a few comments about the need to mod the drive train significantly to cope with the increased torque, particularly about it eating LR auto boxes.
They also say they hear it's a common conversion in the UK, if so where's that damm ad? It may be a case of finding a rusted out donor car to get the right bits.
