is it possible to get a diagnostic interface cable for the discovery. the car is a 95 tdi auto with the obd type connector. i've got the abs light on and would like to read the codes i know the abs system can self diagnose but my mates freelander abs/tc lights are still on so it would be really usefull if i could find an interface that does both. Got a couple of types of obd diagnostic software on pc but advice on best to use would also be appreciated. cheers

LR use their own sets of protocols and therefore need their own software to decode them. Testbook will set you back thousands and the rovacom unit, which is alot cheaper, is vehicle specific.

If anyone gets hold of some software that'll read Disco OBD port... let us all know!

HI all,
The S1 Discos are old school and seem to need fancy readers to read them. SIIs are newer tech and loads of readers can get into them.

My 10c worth

If you look at the wiring diagram and check the wire colours, you should be able to do the old "paperclip" trick and read the codes via the ABS warning lamp as was the case with RR classics.Codes should be the same.

hi guys thanks for the advice i knew about the paperclip trick on the disco but don't know if its possible on the freelander. just thought it'd be nice if i could get a connector that'd do both. as it turns out the disco is the old type 5 pin connector anyway read codes and sorted abs on that now although that was one hell of a head puzzler everytime i read ecu i got a different fault code. then when i finally cleared them all the abs light still would'nt extinguish turned out to be abs light relay that was fooked. loving being back in a landy everytime i drive it i find another niggling problem, but all part of the appeal to me..

just to add a mate of mine in the trade has a snapon diagnostic system that can talk to obd landy's he paid a fortune for the software for it but i wonder if anyone could adapt that system to run from a pc? i could possibly talk him into letting me have a copy of it if anyone thought they might want to have a play with it.. well beyond my knowledge of computers though.. i do'nt know how functional it is but he says he can definetly read and clear abs faults.

There are 2 or 3 types of abs on a FL and the paperclip wont work on them.Nor will the Snap on jobbie either, you would be lucky to get it to do more than talk to the engine ecu.

well that buggers that idea then. i'll ask him what landy he's had it plugged into. knowing him it probably wasn't even a landrover. lol
