Am losing coolant.

From the pic attached you can see the area on the engine block where it is a rusty color with moisture.

It appears to be above and behind the water pump. The silver thing in the bottom right of the picture is the oil rotor filter housing.

The small bolt in the center of the picture is the top bolt of the water pump housing.

Second pic so you know where it is

Any ideas?

Is this a gasket or something attached to the engine block... and how easy is it to replace on a scale of 1 to 10.

A water pump for me would be a 5, as in not that hard..

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think what you meant to say was:

"Hello there guys, I have a problem with my TD5 and I'm looking for some help please.

I have a coolant leak and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea what the problem might be and how difficult it would be to resolve?

Any and all ideas gratefully received
"

I get really cheesed of with bad manners,if you want help, say please.

Now, down to your problem - the item you refer to is the oil cooler and it is a heat exchange device which rusts and creates coolant leaks and possible oil into the coolant leaks as well.

Not that difficult to do but (if I'm right) the replacement part is quite expensive I believe.

It happens because previous owners don't flush and change coolant often enough.

Sorry I didnt know landy owners were the good mannered and sensitive type :) Wrote that msg in a hurry while half under the bonnet so apologies.

Anyway thanks for your help.

Had a look through rave and as I recalled the only oil cooler coming up on that is the gearbox oil one attached to the radiator.

Is there another name for it??

Thanks again.

No it appears to be coming from the side of the 3 bolts on the block.

Id be half tempted to try jb-welding over it and hoping that stops it.

The oil cooler in front of the rad is for the 'box, as you said.

The one on the side of the engine is for engine oil, I believe. Sorry I don't have my workshop manual to hand, but I think it is called an oil cooler?

Can you check the oil lubrication circuit in Rave, it should show it there.

I'm with Thebiglad here, it's quite common the engine oil cooler leak, and as he said the part itself is quite exppensive. U find the part in RAVE-workshop manual - cooling system component layout -nr.8, how to remove it is in Engine Td5 - Repairs - Cooler_engine oil ...u can see the whole part here Britcar (UK) Ltd > PBC500230 OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY ENGINE TD5 (G) , but there is a repait kit for(because it's common to leak) which is not cheap aswell LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 TD5 ENGINE OIL COOLER REPAIR KIT | eBay

The only thing i can find on rave is Cooler - Engine Oil at 12.60.68

And thats the one thats attached to the rad.

Ill keep searching.

Does anybody think that because of the relative small size of the leak that JB Weld would take care of it?

It worked a charm plugging a hole in the rad I created while getting the auxiliary belt off!

I would strongly warn against it. The TD5 cooling system is a lot more complex than the previous TDi units, and the consequences of plugging up the wrong holes could be disastrous.

Why don't you just take off the cooler and have a look?

I was just going to apply it to the engine block where the coolant is leaking out. A small patch of it.

Ill have to get the replacement gaskets first if im going to take the whole thing off.
