Having just read my handbook, the auto gearbox says it uses ATF Dexron IID.

I know it's a specification on a Dexron oil, but I've seen on here the Freelander uses texaco N402.

Valvoline have an alternative for the old N402

These "alternative" jatco oils pop up every so often. They state they're alternatives or suitable for the jatco. But to my knowledge the jatco fitted in the Freelander has a special blend of oil. The same auto engineered for other cars have different oil. Do they actually state they're suitable for the jatco in the Freelander? Are they comfirming this by referencing N402?

carlube do state it is Texaco N402 spec on their website....who's gonna be the forst to try it :scratching_chin:

Had a look on their site but it doesn't suggest which oil to use.

I went to the following link and typed in the yellow box the registration: Y91 RKW

Carlube Motor Oil

Next select ok when it asks if it’s a 2001 Freelander v6.

Now look at the oil options for this vehicle. They don’t suggest any oil for the Jatco. That’s strange.

And for Td4 owners use registration: Y507 LTF

Registrations nicked off ebay. Think I’ll give it a miss for now.

,i cant post photos at the moment ,jatco box is made up of the same parts as most autos std clutch plates and epyclic gears both of which dont require special oil ,oil is more important now in general as manufacturers are trying to find non service boxes /engines etc which require special long life oils ,and rarely meets its requirements and oil change is found necessary and so making long life oil less important,i do know several garages and reconditioners who use dexron successfully ,im not forcing you to,you use what oil you want buts its mechanical not magic ,your welcome to come and see a box been stripped and rebuilt ,removing the reverse clutch band locator bolt is common fault but easy fix ,but does require box off engine ,piston pushes one side of band bolt holds the other just needs relocating,

anorl = and all.
eggs = ex as in eggsource = exhaust.

Thanks for the offer to see a strip down. Pics would be ok if you take them. Your right in what you say. **** it. If peeps want to use what ever oil they want it's up to them. I don't mean to have a go at you as I value your input and appologise if I offend. There's no point in us arguing. I simply don't eccept manufacturers listing n402 and listing other vehicles, but not the Freelander. Thats life I guess.
