Hello all,

In pics I see there is a huge steel box underneath the front seats of the older series and 110 types defenders

Can you specialists tell me whats underneath/inside the box ?
doe anyone have drawings that show me the construction or knows where i can find details of the design

I think it depends on the model. some have the battery stored there but all the ones I've known have a top that slides off and you can pull the seat cushion out and use it as a toolbox.

What he says. And on the Series the fuel tank is under the drivers seat.

Don't know where you would get a drawing of it though, you could try someone like YRM metal who make repair panels...

Download the series parts catalogue there's a sketch on there on page 2G-12 but only shows the top 3/4 view

Under the middle seat there's the top of the gear/transfer boxes...

The SWB only has the passenger side box with the fuel tank under the driver's seat but I think some of the LWB have a box either side.

In the SWB there is also space for a toolbox under the middle seat which is removable to gt at the gearbox underneath (Well there is in mine, dont know if its for all of them)

This is a replacement box
Land Rover Series 3 Under/ Seat Box Locker Tool Tray | eBay
But there was also a version with deeper section for large battery.
Land Rover Series 2a 3 Under/ Seat Battery Box Locker Tool Tray | eBay.
Same company makes new end panels for the seat box assembly.
Not mine but they have a good reutation. Also a company called YRM metals I believe make these items
