Hi,

Yet again I'm trying to fathom my disco 1996 electrics out. My rear demister earth wire had come away from the element so I resoldered it in a fashion but now with it turned on my brake lights also come on but not to full intensity also with the demister turned off when I press the brake the light comes on on the demister switch. I had the problem before but thought it had rectified itself until I realised the wire had come off the rear screen. So I've looked at threads on here but can't find any to help so am putting it out to you all and praying for some good advice. Thanks:confused:

Clean all the connections around the
Lights all the earths check for broken wires
If all else fails press the demister to brake and the brake to clear the window

Well if there were no issues until you re-soldered the rear demist i'd start there.

First place I'd check is the earth post behind the drivers side rear light cluster and work forward

but as a test disconnect the rear demister and see what happens with brake lights etc. as storm sez if it worked before you soldered ok then you may have a got that slightly wrong

might be worth a little look at the wiring harness as it passes from body to rear door. could be a broken/storted wiring????

sometimes the simple solutions are the best! finally got round to looking at it properly today and decided to snip the earth wire for the demister and earth it directly to the door and hey presto no brake lights on when the demister is on and no demister on when i press the brake pedal. Problem solved.

Many thanks for all the advice :D
