My new 200 tdi defender (not originally 200) has the same clocks as my 300 tdi defender which is a genuine tdi, Just looked at my mates 90 tonite and his gauges including speed are diffrent, both registered in 88 with 200 tdi defender engines, which is right? Mine shows its hot, it might well be but having had trouble with my 300 to find it was a faulty sender I want to check thus is all ok 1st,

His temp gauge has lines white 1/4 1/2 3/4 then red

Mine has a small white block and then a small red at the top

And I've seen the ones with big white block and small red,

was it a 19j to start with and has original gauge. ?

if so and its using the TDI temp sender then it will read hot.

you can get a sender that matches to the 19jgauge that fits the 200 tdi disco block - iirc it comes from glencoyne.

I have a defender block so just screwed in the 19j sender.

Yeah I think it was a 19j and the gauge looks the same as my 94 tdi defender

It's a 200 defender engine but don't know what Gauge or sender

look at the sender on the engine.. is it black or green ringed? def should usually be black iirc. or i'm thinking 300tdi. lol

A 200tdi defender engine with a 200tdi sender and a 19j gauge - regardless of it looking the same as a.n.other gauge

Will run hot on the gauge (engine not actually hot)

A 19j sender will fit a 200tdi defender block (but not a disco) and will read rigt on the gauge.

To get it to read right you need a pukka 200tdi gauge or a 19j sender.

Senders are cheap. Thats what id change.

Your gauge or sender are wrong . And ill put money on it being the gauge being a 19j one simply because gauges are pricy to change.

Ring paddocks they have a cross reference list for the senders ;) they will sort you the right one
