Back to the topic of the thread this is another one that seems hugely over priced: LINK
I am not denying it has had a lot of work done but as it is a series vehicle the higher prices are for originality which this is a long way from. So again is this just someone chancing it or believing because they have spent a lot on it it is worth more. Or am I missing something else?

Very expensive for what it is. If it was original on a galvy chassis, the price would be somewhat more justified.

I think chancers and people who are convinced they're getting every penny they spent back make up a good proportion of sellers.... I mean people are entitled to ask whatever price they want, but of course if it's not realistic it will just sit for sale for months on end. If something is a good deal it will probably sell within a few days, and they don't come up too much.

IMO if something is too expensive either make an offer, or just pass it by, life is too short to get too caught up with how much money other people are trying to get for their vehicles. Who cares? Too much money? Don't buy it.

I care because I am trying to gauge the current position of the market to work out if it’s realistic to get a project vehicle for a couple grand like I did two years ago or if the market has moved up and I need a larger budget. I am not interested in the specific vehicles linked. More the market as a whole for two reasons. The bottom as mentioned as looking to buy and also the rebuilt end of the market to make sure mine is correctly insured. By being aware of the current general price points I can be in a far better position.
I know the market has been high post covid, believed it was on the way down and beginning to stabilise in recent years, But then adverts like the ones linked muddy the waters and confuse a wider general picture that I am trying to achieve.
If I didn’t keep up with the general trend of the market I would still believe you could by a defender with a mot and 6 months tax for the £1800 I paid for mine 18 years ago! As it is I am aware prices have increased and the most expensive Land Rover I have ever bought was the one bought for my some before he was born 18 months ago at £2200 with which I didn’t get a v5 and it has a chassis and bulkhead in spirit only!

Fair point! I think ebay sold prices probably offer a better insight than ads, as they reflect what has actually sold... not what dreamers hope someone will pay!

I mean in my opinion you should still be able to get a project requiring chassis replacement etc for a couple of grand if you keep looking out, definitely seems feasible. I don't really bother looking at the higher end of the market as I don't have say 10-20k to throw at things.

I paid £4500 for my 110 hard top in feb and that got me a rough around the edges but actually pretty solid and clean underneath Landy. At that price the downsides being it had been off the road for over 20 years and needed further recommissioning (despite having a valid MOT) and being an original 2.5 Petrol, not a TDI.

A friend of mine just bought a camper van for £17k. It's worth £7k at most.
Put any price you want and you only need to get lucky with a fool, once.

I will pipe in with my 2p worth.

What you value your (on the road 110) is what you value it at, if you feel you are undervaluing it then you need to tell your insurance. So keeping an eye on todays values is fine.
But. You are talking about buying something and hiding it in a field (from the wife) for 10+ yrs. So why bother with complete running 1s?

You have already noted you have an engine+++ loads of spares and would replace the chassis/bulkhead. All you need is a complete 1, whatever the condition shirley 🤔.

Trying to work out the price in 10+yrs really isnt the issue, is it?

What if its a girl and she wants a FL .

I am interested in the top of the market because other than the lack of originality that is where I believe my daily 110 should sit with galv everything and regularly and repeatedly rebuilt mechanicals due to the mileage I do. I am not looking to buy or sell just wanting a general realistic value on mine for insurance reasons.

That is exactly all I need. As noted on an earlier post straight ish body panels, complete ish interior, and a v5 is all I need. But I am seeing dismantled project vehicles advertised for over 10k (again assume trying to unrealistically recoup total costs). As I am just starting to search again I do not have a budget yet other than as cheap as possible so the realistic price is what I am Trying to work out so I don’t over spend.

My interest is purely top And bottom of the market as that is what I currently have/want. The middle is not relevant to me.

We live in a modern world of gender equality. The women folk are allowed to drive defenders now!

Completely correct. I am not trying to predict the market and not interested in future prices. I am not looking at this as a financial investment, this is an investment in future teaching, bonding, common interest time spent and experiences with my children.

A few in your range that look like fun 🤔.

Dont seem to have any bites on this, already has the chassis. but if its in a field for 10 yrs it may still need some protection.

They always were. M loves our little "mudball" but then she drove a V8 in the army :), maybe 1 day I can give her that satisfaction again🤔.

When was the last time your wife drove the 110:D.

Looking for a cheap 110 is looking like a challenge.
Why not do a 90? All the parts forward of the door latches are the same.

If your looking for a series motor look abroad, everything fits in a container & gets delivered

That is the issue and why this is an uphill battle. She has driven it once about 10 years ago on a green lane and has refused to drive it since. She is only a begrudging passenger when her car is too small which is far more often now there is a child and related parafenalia along with a Large dog!

Because a 90 is only Slightly larger than a tonka toy! But there is also part of it (maybe naively) that is about having the same as I had and preferably something with enough seats to take friends out etc.

Similarly with a series. I do not think once rebuilt this will be a daily driver like mine was (not that naive) but it won’t be on the road for another 18 years making it nearly 60 years old at the point back on the road. Running a series would add another 20 years to that!

If its just something to work on together I wouldn't necessarily discount a 90, I mean at least they're a manageable size... or a later series for a restomod style build? I guess you don't really know what this child will want, they might even end up wanting to get into something different entirely

I had loads of fun as a child helping my dad work on his series 1 and going out in it, before it got stripped down. It felt quite fast with the top off but in reality it probably struggled to do 40 downhill.
