Cockernee, Pasty munchin bastid.
Has anyone converted their Defender so that they can fold down their windscreen (like on Series vehicles)?
I've seen the hinges for sale and I wondered if that's all that is involved - removing the brackets and replacing them with the hinges.
I guess I'd need to fit some rubber buffers onto the bonnet for it to land on and some means of retaining it / stopping it bouncing around. Anything else involved?
I run mine topless in the summer and I'm keen to get the wind in my face again - now that I can't ride a bike anymore.
Now all I need is some doors with removable tops.......

i recent study has shown that a bit of 69 after a good curry is the best way to get wind in yer face
 
I seem to have the hinges on mine anyway, considering its a hardtop you would think they wouldn't bother!
 
I'm thinking of this meself. Surely the hinges are there already it's just a matter of unscrewing the clamping bolts removing the wipers and hinging the window forwards.

What have you fastened the shoulder mounts of your seatbelts to. And how long does it take to fasten the roof and stuff back on when it rains.
 
I think they fitted hinges to the early 90s and military stuff, but not civilian Defenders.
 
Mine has the got the bits to enable the winscreen to fold flat (i think).

Its got a plunger/spring type knob thing either side of the screen on the inside:cool:

Well mine aint got hinges - just rigid brackets.
I can remove / replace me truck cab in about 20 min, but it's a 2 man job to lift it on or off. I don't have a roof lining though, which makes it easier.

I attach the shoulder strap of me seatbelts through the big round hole where the stick for a soft top is sposed to go and use a load of washers.
Not sure how "legal" that is and the belts don't "reel" in and out so well.
 
Oh and yer need to modify yer door seals by cutting them each side and removing the top half.
 
My door seals are fooked anyhow.

What I'd thought of was to cut the window section out of the back bit and replace it with a sheet of ally and hinge it along the bottom, then fit those over centre clips to the top bit and the remaining sides, then fit simmilar clips to the roof so it clips to the top of the window and round the corner bits of the back, then the roof could be uncliped in a few seconds stashed in the tub and the middle bit hinged down leaving the seatbelt mounts untouched.

Wot d'yer reckon.
 
hmmmm - sounds a bit complicated.
i looked at replacing the nuts and bolts with clips, but there aint much to attach the clips to, specially along the top of the windscreen.
 
No I'm not to sure myself all the interior trim is still in mine so I don't reely know whats behind it all yet.
 
and yer wouldn't want yer roof coming unclipped and flyin orft on the Motorway would yer?!
 
Best stay away from motorways then, any how there's only the M62 round these parts and it leads to the outside of Yarksheer bit, an' we all know that beyond Yarksheer there be dragons.
 
How MUCH wind do ya want in yer face? Ain't it enuff to take the roof off. Dunt rilly see the point of dropping the screen too, spesh having lost several screens t'stones & that.

If yer going t'do it, I'd just leave the screen @ home too I reckon. Ain't gonna make much odds if you put it up if it starts raining!

Reckon you've bin breathing the fooms from that tin ore agin.
 
IIRC you're required to wear a helmet on road if you've not got a screen in place - anyone know the law on that one?
