Hi,

I'd like to upgrade my defender sound system i.e. speakers and a sub-woofer.

I'm interested to see pictures where people have placed the speakers and sub-woofer?

Cheers

Hi and welcome

Not really bothered in mine so can't advise, but get yourself over to the 'Introdctions' page before the vulcher's start circling

Sure otehrs will be along soon with ideas - have seen some photos of sub woofers under the drivers seat

Ahh, a link to a link!

My plan is to have a DAB head unit, have already upgraded the dash speakers.

Then I am going to get some of the enclosures from MudStuff for the rear and put another couple of speakers in those.

Then probably a couple of the flat subwoofers like this:

To go behind the seats.

I've got a subwoofer fitted in a custom box behind my cubby box with speakers either side my head at the front and 2 6x9 above the 2 rear side windows in the corner and it bounces if you want pics let me know and I will take some pics.

Back when I had the old seats (nice new fancy ones now) but sub is still in same place on center bulkhead. Have two Alpine speakers in the dash, Pioneer head unit. Sounds real good once ya broken it all in. It's probably not the best place for bass acoustics but didn't want to take space up in the back at the time. Looks tidy there anyway. The amp is built in to the sub.

Hi, that setup is what I was thinking about, if you could take pictures that'd be great thanks!

That looks really smart, do you recommend the Alpine speakers for their price? What make is your subwoofer and amp please?

The alpine speakers are good for their size. I can't remember what size they are but they are this model (please check size first) Alpine SPG-10C2 4" (10cm) Coaxial 2-Way Car Speakers 180W 4958043518197 | eBay

Sub makes a big difference to the depth of the audio. Its a fairly powerful sub, however if you're looking to have the windows resonating with clear bass, it might not be what you're looking for. Yes it will make things shake but due to its form factor, it's not really its design intention. Hover, that's more likely due to how it's mounted. Recommend it however. I didn't pay quite this much for it. Vibe LiteAir OptiSound Auto 8 Active 900 Watt Amplified Underseat Sub Subwoofer | eBay

Do mind the metal bit at the bottom isn't near anything in particular, it can get quite warm as it is the heat sink for the built in amp.

Any good head unit will do. I prefer Pioneer personally. Alpine are a good one too.

I put it on there as I kept putting stuff on top of the sub like my phone etc so stops the top from getting damaged.

It's not quite finished yet but this is what I did for my 130. For such a big vehicle there's surprisingly little room! I had to custom make the box to fit behind the front seats and under the rear ones. It doesn't give the best acoustics for sound reporduction but it's never going to sound good in a Defender is it? I don't know of anyone else with a 15" sub in a 130, hopefully I'm one of the first!
