Hi all,
I am having real trouble with a defender 90 2.4TD 2008, It runs fine a lot of the time but has always had a delay on the throttle. As in, when you come off the accelerator, the engine keeps revving for a couple of seconds before slowing down. This may have nothing to do with the running problem but just seems strange.
The main problem is that sometimes when you start it up, it will cough and splutter for ages until it finally cleans itself through and runs ok. There is usually lots of smoke coming out whilst all this is going on. To start with I thought it sounded like either a blocked fuel or air filter, So I changed both and there was a marked improvement but then it started to happen again after afew runs out
. I then decided I would take the tank out and give it a good clean and put fresh fuel in, just incase some water had got in the tank. Again, it seemed to have sorted it out and I ran it for even longer than last time with no problems, but then it started happening again
!
So now I am thinking about the injection pump or injectors, but just wanted to run it past all of you other members first incase anyone else has had a similar problem. I would normally say it sounds like your lift pump has gone, but it aint got one!!!!
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks, Martin.
