I'm looking to buy a defender 110 td5, I have been looking on and off for the past year or more, there is a 2002 td5 110 for sale close to me, 140k miles, I've seen it once and driven it, seems good to me bodywork is in real good condition, underneath doesn't look to bad considering it's 15 years old. Steering felt a little vague but I drive a 116i so maybe that doesn't help?!

Just looking for any advice/ what to look for etc, I'm taking my father in law tomorrow and we've almost come to an agreement on money so if anyone has any wise words for a 25 year old who's obsessed with buying one please come forward!!!

Make sure its a late 2002 with the updated dash. Stronger engine and better electronics

Cheers for your response, it's a 52 plate? See picture below, is that the dash you're talking about? Also, as I drove it off it felt like the tyres rubbed a little on full lock? Also the drivers door needs a new pin as it's dropped but only by a very small amount.

Thats the one! If the tyres rub you can adjust the stop locks, easy enough to do.

They doors do that, most likely need a new hinge, if the door closes then happy days
