A neighbour of mine has a Disco 2, and has rotten front pipes, and a PCV fault, and has been quoted around £1300 + VAT to replace.
It doesnt get used much, so he is not wanting to spend a fortune on it

I know that you need to fit a dummy pulley and a new belt, but is it essential to replace to ARB's? And also, is there a way to turn the ACE light of in the dash? Is it just as simple as cutting the wire between the ACE ECU and instrument pack?

Anybody with a nanocom can turn off the ACE light- it isn't as simple as cutting a wire.

You certainly should consider replacing the ARBs however with non-ACE ones if you do the work.

PS That's a silly quote - you should be able to get a much better one than that!

Though I do know of people who have binned the ACE and havent bothered to put anything it its place... see for example the attached link which promises to solve the problem for £39...

What I would say is that binning ACE is much better with coil sprung suspension. It's a bit wallowy/lively with air bags...

Even with a conversion to springs its cheaper to bin the ACE than to try and repair it and I'm not convinced there is that much `added value' from ACE...

Having test driven a couple of 110s recently, I think if you can cope with stiff springs ACE isn't necessary.

It does a great job of reducing body roll though for a big, top heavy car with air suspension.
