Simple! All you have to do is rip the centre consol out with a screwdriver and a drill, disconnect all the linkages and and drop the gearbox off it's mounts. Disconnect both props and undo a few bolts and with the xfer box in low range, slide it off....take the steering wheel orf and dismantle the dash. Then with one arm shoved up the gearbox tunnel and the other from the top of the dash while a Shaman dances around the car.......................the ashtray just pops out.

Well that is until I found the little steel spring thing inside the ashtray itself after reading the Haynes manual......

Note to self.....must empty the ashtray on a more regular basis.
