Update:
Managed to get a J type fuse just now (Big up Halfords open Boxing Day) and fitted fuse - and everything started happening. I asked it to raise and screen said something about raising - I could hear the compressor when outside the car, quite faint mind - I expected it to be a reasonable loud brrrrrrddd. That said, maybe thats because when I looked at the dash it said vehicle raising slowly (or similar). It looks like its raised fair bit from its height before i started, I stupidly didnt measure where it started from before my experiment. I couldn't hear any hissing air leaks and assume compressor can make a fair amount so a leak would be evident if it were stopping it going up by a significant amount. I turned engine off after perhaps 2 minutes so I didn't blow fuse again pending some replies here if poss. All suspension warnings and orange light went off. I had selected off road height it said on screen.
So, does it sound like weak compressor? Are they reconditionable - I've seen kits but most searches only talk of replacement so are they a lost cause or special tools req?

that’s great you’ve made some progress
if u put it into off road height and then u pull fuse f26, this stops the compressor from self levelling and leave it overnight , this will see if there’s any leaks
so u measure it at the start before removing the fuse and then recheck in the morning to see what the heights are
then we can go from there, depending if it drops or not
u will have 3 x levels, access which drops is down , normal and then off road height
on the access and off road height u will see a small symbol appear in the instrument panel
there are indeed kits , i tried to repair mine but bits starting breaking so just bought a new compressor
raising slowly can be the silica dryer is blocked or the compressor is tired
if u start with the fuse and can at least see if it will hold air first

Just checked it after 5 hours and still exactly the same heights all round. I won't get a chance to remove the F26 fuse as going out, but I won't be starting or running it either so will that matter?
If I do pull the f26 fuse and run it - will it stay at its current height, and will it have error message?

the D3 will wake up approx every 6 hours and self level , the fuse has to be in when ur using the vehicle , otherwise the compressor won’t run and come up with all sorts of display faults
for example , with the fuse in and if u had a leak on one corner, the other 3 x corners will drop down to that level when it does a self level test , with the fuse removed it stops the rest of the suspension trying to self level
the only sure way to test for any air leaks is to remove the F26 fuse overnight

Measured again this eve and heights identical (to those given before..)
that’s great it didn’t drop with that fuse pulled and ruled out any air leak , it would have been a waste otherwise with a new or repaired compressor fitted
not being pedantic , it’s normally measured from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheelarch, once again u wouldn’t have known , lol
will find the measurement for u to at least have them
are u able to select the 3 x heights without the fault coming up, or does raising slowly still come up plse
if it does , it’s a weak compressor as u also mentioned , can either try and repair or replace it
out of curiosity in access mode will the compressor stop running plse,
plse let us know how u get on and have u got the links for the repair kits or a new compressor , if not plse let me know and can put them up for u

got the height setting for u , in the normal setting , centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch

Centre to wheel arch - got it, that makes sense as takes out tyre wear and pressures I guess. I'll post up my figs for that in a minute.
If I select raised height it says the slowly message. I've been looking at the Gap IID site out of interest and it shows a Range Rover going up and down, mine was quite indiscernible - it got there after a couple of mins but was hard to detect the movement frankly - The IID car was very fast and presumably gives me some idea of the performance I should see on my D3.
I'm a bit wary of going into access mode (to bump stops?) - I understand the comp turning off bit, but at the moment its able to be driven anywhere and I'm concerned I won't get it up again (ahem)
Kits or new - Well I've looked at some vids by a company called x8r.com and I'm wondering about giving it a go. Lets face it, if I wasn't interested in either a) Fettling or b) saving money or even a+b then frankly I would either have not bought the car or would have whacked it straight into my nearest Dealer. However, I've searched and not found many reports of success - most talk of change only, and sometimes several in a row. I'm not sure what would constitute a good candidate for recon...

Mines 460 front 490 back but it is on downwards slope if that matters - However, all identical even though it has a camber to left (wonky drive eh)

understand u not wishing to put it into access mode , lol
when i changed my compressor the difference was very noticeable, with it reaching off road height in seconds not minutes
yes that’s the company , also done the same in trying to repair mine, did think i had nothing to loose, alas didn’t work and had to go for a new one , think in all honesty it only delays the inevitable with having to replace the compressor
when u remove the compressor covers u can at least u can see what kind of condition it’s in and making a judgement call
really should be on a flat when checking , but plus of minus 10mm is fine
might have a slight lean because the compressor hasn’t got enough guts in it , could easily recheck the figures on a flat in the week, lol

Might get a chance to pull the cover tomorrow and have a peek - yet to discover what make compressor under there. From what I've read its unlikely to be original on an 06 car...
u never know and will indeed be interesting to see what make you’ve got
PS , as a side note , when u do buy one , u will be amazed how u survived without a diagnostic reader , lol

Braved the chill this morning and pulled the cover to reveal a Hitachi unit (I think). It has a number on a yellow sticker of RQG500080 and I'm wondering if that is the original unit or some copy. I took a couple of pics, including one of the contents of the bottom cover
. I had a look at the bolts to remove it and the pipes, man that looks fiddly

yep that’s a hitachi alright , so it’s going to be if u decide to either repair or replace it
u could get the live data of the compressors pressure before removing it , just thinking of ur pocket
they are indeed fidly to replace, just have to take ur time i’m afraid ,
when i had suspension issues you’ve got to go through it step by step and not miss anything out

I'm going to try and repair it - I think its worth a try at least - In prep I've release oiled the nuts and pipe fittings and will give it a few doses before the kit arrives (prob end of week cos of xmas etc etc)
Any tips on what to do regarding the 2 plastic pipes at the rear, some sort of Voss connector - some suggest they pop out easy peasy, others say no chance - or is it best to cut and shut with 2 pushfits. If I do that, where do you chop it - leave a long enough tail to connect to them I suppose, but that doesnt leave a lot of room cos of bends in the pipe

is indeed at least worth trying , options are you’re have to cut the pipes if u can’t get them out
main thing , if i may , is take ur time and will come out , will give u chance to clean eeverything off, give the chassis a paint whilst it’s out
i tried the XR8 kit and was good quality , main issues is if u can get the compressor apart without breaking anything , but u won’t know until u try
