Hi all, I bought a CB recently for my Disco2 but it was crackling and buzzing like crazy, so I took it back to the shop and he adjusted it all and its running sweet, trouble is I still have the interferance noise. As I began to lose patience and was going to send it back thinking it was still bust I pressed the windscreen wash wipe and the radio buzzed loudly! I have since noticed that it does it with a few electrical things such as brake lights, washers etc.
Problem is, where do i start? the buzz is constant when driving so is it interferance with the management aswell?? what do i need to do?
Thanks!

First thing you need to do is run a direct feed off the battery. for the CB.

If you have a petrol engined car, you have additional potential for interference from the ignition system.

I've got a TD5, and an amateur radio wired straight to the battery and have no real interference to speak of, just a smidge of alternator whine.

if you can have the Antenna lead as far as poss away from any power leads, and get a Choke for the power lead, usually found on computer leads etc, you can them from maplins, RS conponents. they are called Ferrite Rings and help to stop any interferance coming down the antenna. And make sure your PL259 on the antenna lead is soldered, with no dry joints as the shield won't be as good as it should be.

thanks for all the help, your saying about the power cable, mines plugged into the cigarrete lighter, would running a direct cable sort it?

Hard to say but it would DEFINITELY be a better way to do it.

There is a grommit up above the accelerator pedal which comes out of the front bulkhead underneath the foam acoustic padding in the scuttle in the drivers side of the engine bay. Pop a small slit in it, run the cable through it and smear a bit of sealant over where it comes through to keep it watertight. From there you can run it neatly to the battery clamps - put a pair of ring crimps on there and bolt the wires onto the respective terminals - simples.
