OK..I have a series 3 which runs on LPG and petrol. I start the vehicle on petrol and after about a mile I swop over to LPG. Vehicle runs superbly on LPG.

I have noticed though that when on petrol she runs with the choke fully out but cuts-out when I stop unless the choke is still fully out. Pops and misses a bit when running on petrol but as said above, 100% perfect when on the LPG. Tickover is perfect on LPG.

I intend to buy a carb repair or re-build kit ( where from though ? ) as it is clearly a carb fault. Starts first time on full choke/petrol.

Is this a common/known fault? Just needing a little advice before I pull the carb off etc

Carb is a Weber on 2.25 ltr 1977 Series 3 petrol

If the S3 runs smooth on lpg and starts without a problem
don't mess with the carb just for using it with a mile on petrol

I even start mine on LPG and use it on LPG. Once or twice a week i use petrol for a few miles to liquidate the carb.

Mine also done this when I first had it, of course runs fine on LPG, as it doesn't use the mechanics of the carb, the float, etc.. it is worth having the carb working though, in case of breaking down without gas! can't walk down the road with a can to get LPG! but anyway, it would be easy to clean the carb, injectors, make sure the float is the right height, etc, you can get rebuild kits by searching on tinterweb! Famous Four - New Parts for Series IIA and III Land Rover - Fuel & Air Systems this ll do? fit an inlet fuel filter, and make sure all gasket surfaces are clean.. good luck.

Thanks guys, I think it had been standing unused for about 5 or 6 months before I bought her ( and probably always started on the LPG prior to that), so she is probably just gummed up in the pilot jet area etc. Runs fine on main jet etc..but I'll have to get the carb cleaned out.
