Right I have a cruise control button which does light when pressed up on my center console. On my steeringwheel I seem to have a cut out where the controls should go.

Any ideas whether or not I'll be able to just buy the steering wheel controls and it will work?

I have a ES model 2001. I have found a steering wheel control on ebay which I may bid for but don't wanna bother if I don't have all the other bits.

I would think the wiring is there especially if the light on the switch comes on. Maybe you just need the steering wheel controls?

I thought I had read somewhere you had done it Nodge. Cant loose too much if it doesn't go for silly money.

Not on my Freelander as is came with Cruise control from the factory. I did attempt to fit it into my MG but sold the car before I got it working :(

It sounds pretty complicated now :( lol. I just cant understand why I have the switch and then a big hole in the side of the steering wheel?

actually seems to be a piece of cake from what has been said,

you need the button (which you have)
steering wheel controls (missing)
cruise control ecu (maybe there, maybe not)

some peeps have just done a plug and play, others have had to have it enabled from testbook, some just haven't got it working.

most success seems to be from td4 autos for some reason.

look for gstuarts write up, but please don't contact him at the moment, he has a few things to deal with.

I fitted one just look if you have the wiring ,it does sound as though you do have it if the switch is lighting the dash light up also check under the drivers seat to see if the small ecu is there.if you do not have the ecu under the seat then get a second hand one as these do not need programing
