its official I am an idiot, now what ?
was in the dark desperately trying to change the battery, using a spare I had
from an old pick up I have, i crossed terminals for approximately 3 seconds. the horn stated blasting as I removed the positive. got it crossed back over and everything is functional, key fab locks unlocks windows up down etc ...
wont turn over though and I appear to have a red flashing light I have not seen as yet ? thought I would ask before I tried anything further ?

I have referred to this site as a guest as I have sorted through the few problems I have had with my freelander and have found this site to be an invaluable source. am ready to be chidded for my pseudo landy ...
let it rip ? but please ... Help ?

Probably fried the diodes in the alternator, possibly damaged the starter too.

Wouldn't be surprised if you have fried one or more of the ECU's as well,
they tend not to like that kind of thing..

If all works other than starting maybe a diagnostic would through up the culprit,
is anyone near you that can help???

Might help if you put where your from...

won't it just have blown the big fuse, or am i in the wrong vehicle?

check all fuses in engine bay, links and relays etc first

Start with fuses, then look for burnt wiring! If you can't find anything simple!

if you say light is flashing, that is for immobiliser, try locking the vehicle, then unlocking to start.
