Hi all long time since needed bit of advice got oil leak from crank shaft pulls had rac out its got a hole in the pulley wheel and needs a new belt tensioner as well he said the bolt came loose on the crankshaft pulley my nearest parts place would be island 4x4 should I get original parts it's a 1999 4.6 all help appreciated
 
Just a quick ad on does it hav a seal as well and most importantly is a job I could do myself or is best to have it done professionally cheers
 
I'd get original for a crank seal myself. Check the torque setting in RAVE. If it is anything like the doozle then it requires some grunt.
 
Should get news tomorrow from local garage regarding crankshaft pulley and other pulley that's gone can anybody put me right as to what damage could have been done to the engine when the pulley went and any ideas on cost of the repair to both pulleys
 
Any rough ideas would be a great help so I don't get ripped off bye the local garage I had to put it in thanks in advance
 
Hey Pete, it'll depend on a couple of things.
Price of the parts initially and there labour rate!
Hopefully not cheap and easy to source pulleys and not an expensive rate of labour.. not much help sorry...:oops:.
If the pulley had failed on the go loss of power steering and charge from the alt. One case is the belt snags, breaks, lashes out and bends the tensioner pulley bracket..
 
I had replaced both of the pulleys on mine with just the main belt. All makes and Brit part...four months downtown the line cracked belt and squeaky pulleys.. seems to me if you search for pulleys for P38 diesel. That's all you get is britpart and allmakes. If you search BMW m51 pulleys, there are dayco, gates and INA!! A bit of research is never a bad thing! :eek:
 
I just bit the bullet and bought a new Land Rover pulley tensioner and pulley from Rimmer Bros. Heard horror stories on the Britpart ones. Allmakes seem to be the same quality as Britpart. Wouldn't touch it.
 
Thanks for help sorry been away with work car still in garage at moment last time it broke down at my caravan I used this garage to replace two air bags and he put originals on it so he will probably source the parts from island 4x4 originals again will call him tomorrow for an update
