BMW Cyclone type is definately the way to go. Basically fit it and forget it for at least 30K then wash it out. any ****e goes down into the sump and is collected by the oil filter.
RoverRon of Synergy fame says clean it every 100K.

I'm at work. Wonder if its here. Doesn't look that easy to fit. I'll be honest, I haven't ready any guides. Is it just a matter of taking the engine cover off and the induction piping? Does the inlet need to come off or the injector rail?

Basically...remove the rear engine cover (The one with the oil filler cap sitting in it)...two allen screws (5mm key) on the top and two at the rear-one in each corner. You will then see the injector wiring loom which is attached to a plastic "Bridge"-remove the self tapping screws securing the bridge and move it out of the way, you can if you wish remove the electrical plugs to the injectors. Remove the horseshoe shaped wire clips securing the spill pipe "Tees" from the top of the injectors and gently wriggle the "Tees" free.
You can then see and remove the allen screws securing the PCV and just lift it out.
The genuine BMW cyclone PCV comes complete with a new gasket and screws, the one I had came with Torx screws and not allen screws which the original had.
No need to use any sealant on the gasket but a light smear of oil or grease will help when refitting the spill pipe tees.

**Be careful when removing the wire "Horseshoe" spring clips that you do not drop them !!!

Make sure the new part drops into the the lower housing correctly first . , as there is a rib to aline with a notch/cutout on the new part , mine did not match , so i had to cut out a new notch , also make sure the new part is pressed into the O ring seal of the upper housing as you mate upper to lower halfs of the pcv valve .

Mine just dropped in without having to do any cutting & carving.
