Yep, think you are right, going to leave it alone.....someone else has been there before me, as the Sensor wires have been soldered. I have check the joins and they are fine, though this could be throwing up the fault.

Was the shield around the cps wires repaired properly ? If not its possible the ecu is picking up electrical noise from the starter motor on cranking - setting a fault in the ecu every time you start it.If that is the case a good wrapping with tin foil as an experiment will prove it.Clear the fault and try again.
If it were the starter motor causing it there would be a fault logged for ANY code reader to see and once the engine got away from the starter the ecu would see a decent signal from the cps and use it.

They are exposed, the shielding has been cut back!!! I will surround the cabling with foil.....!! Thanks for the suggestion. :)
 
Isn't the Hawkeye VIN Locked???

Will have to get it unlocked in order to sell it me thinks...
 
What actual fault does the car show in service ?
Couple of things,if the crank sensor is too poor or missing the engine ecu will use the needle lift sensor,(Unlike the petrol P38s it has a backup)you can tell when this is happening because the engine will have a higher idle speed.This is to prevent stalling as fuelling is cut out altogether on overrun.
Also the crank sensor is there not just for actual rpm,one of its primary functions is to provide info to control injection timing in conjunction with the needle lift sensor.
The crank sensor is easy to scope if there is a problem as it should give a nice clean output.The needle lift sensor provides quite a dirty output so its best seen on a diagnostic tool you can trust the readings from.
Testbook is very good in this respect and you normally see the readings as exactly the same at constant speed and the NL sensor will drop to zero on overrun.
If I unplug my cps when the engine is idling is shoots up to 2000 rpm

Turn it of and try to restart it it won't
So I'm unsure where you got that from .
