Bolted into the nearside rear of the engine behind lower part of exhaust manifold,2 or 3" above the sump joint.

Getting at it is not too bad - its unplugging its multiplug that is a pain,its right down the back of the LH head.

I found unplugging was best done from the top, kneel on the front panel and rest my tummy 
on the engine as the wire runs down the back of the N/S (England) of the engine.
From underneath the car if you look at the exhaust manifold, look back to where the gearbox joins the block and you will see the Crank Sensor, it is in a sort of circular recess...
