Hi guys, sorted out my engine last week after the timing belt ate itself a while back -new rockers, pushrods and a whole new timing belt kit and everything is running hunky-dory once more. :D

Only problem is that there is a fair ammount of oil coming from the bottom hole on the timing case now. I couldn't get a new crank seal in time so have left the old one in there but presume it suffered when it went bang.

So, whilst the whole lot is apart once more this weekend, are there any other seals that can/should be changed? and do the seals change between years like the timing belt kits did? (it's a 300tdi)

Also i have a mate that works for a land rover main stealer, he says i should change the timing belt again due to oil contamination. is this correct or can i just clean it up and refit it?

Thanks in advance, harry

Id order a Cam shaft seal as well as crank just to be coverd when you take the front off -just coz shes leaking oil out of the drain hole , dont always mean its the crank seal :) .

Thanks chaps! :D Considering it has already cost me 2 timing belt kits, pushrods, rockers etc, i will spend the tenner and get a new dayco belt.

Are the seals standard through all 300tdis or did they change?

I will get a mate to pick up the seals and belt later today then get cracking :D

In the meantime is it ok to drive as long as i keep an eye on oil levels?

I take it that changing the seals are like any others, leaver out carefully, smear new one in oil and fit carefully/evenly?

Harry
