Yes I have searched, but my problem appears to be different.

Front courtesy light comes on when the doors open as expected. Lights do not come on when switched to on position.

Cleaned the switch, put it back together, same results, opened the switch again, lost the ball bearing, bought a new light for a couple of quid. Same problem. Lights on when doors open, not on with switch.

The rear light works with switch.

I tested with the multimeter and plug only gets voltage when the door is open. I also think I am missing a connection, the back plate that holds the light on bolts to a connection with the switch but to nothing else. Should there be a wire with a ring connector on it?

If its working when you open the door it must be wired properly there must be a fault in the switch live so give it a try

I changed the whole unit though.

There isn't constant voltage across the plug, only when the door is open, is there another switch apart from the one on the door and the one on the actual light?

Correct! it's the earth connection for the light unit that you have lost.
There is only one live and that's permanent.
I believe the earthing point for the front lamp is behind one of the kick panels try.

That would make sense as I've had all that out before, I'll have a look.

The door pin doesn't earth the interior lamp, it signals the MFU to do that function with the light delays that u have. The lamp switch provides from one side of the bulb a manual earth connection, which u should have but don't have.

I ran a new earth from the metal back plate to one of the bolts that come down off the roof and everything is working as it should.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
