Car warms up as normal, fan cuts in, temp gauge drops to zero. Wont stop until ignition cut. Any ideas?

Had similar on Rover 75 turned out to be the temperature sensor for the fan (fitted on the rad on the 75) only cost a few pounds from dealer.

Anyone tell me where the temp sensor is? I can't find my haines....
Think it might be in the pipework from the thermo to the top of the rad?

what engine have you on the 1800 it looks like it is on the coolant outlet elbow on the l series it is on the coolant elbow at the front right hand end of the cylinder head on the td4 it is in the metal part of the intake .you have to take the top part off and you need something like loctite to seal it back on and you will need new intake seals but do not go to LR for them they are dear

Think it's the V6, info on the web suggests its in the top hose but not sure if that's correct.

it's a 1.8 2002 Freelander...
