Hi All
I have 2001 Disco td5, and this weekend the heater would only blow cold.
I checked under the bonnet to find the expansion tank empty, I have filled it with the correct fluid(orange). and heater blows fine..However I noticed that coolent level has dropped about halfway when cold, is this normal or should i be looking for something else ?

A slight drop when cold is normal but if ya losing coolant yu need to find out where it's going too. could be split hose, Head Gasket, or leaky Rad.

You either have a leak somewhere or head gasket/head is cracked, you should not be losing coolant, get underneath and look for leaks, if not suspect something to do with the head area.

Hi
My disco is not overheating,the temp gauge shows normal, could it be that when i filled the expansion tank, then drove the disco, some flluid was retained in the system. I only put in 2 ltrs to fill it ?.
I guess I should just monitor the level :doh:

even after draining the system 1 only need 1 top up if thing are no right after 3-4 you need to start looking for a leak the radiator and water pump would be the first places to start

My td5 disco was loosing coolant from the fuel cooler, replaced the part been fine ever since.

EGR cooler bit pipes on later models can leak too!
