I'm sorry I must have misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were saying that it is not correct to put the undiluted anti-freeze in FIRST - but I'm now thinking that you were actually saying it's not good to run on pure 100% undiluted anti-freeze.
 
Thanks, I'm now doubting my exact mix so intend to pull the bottom rad hose, flush with water hose and refill starting with 5.5L of coolant. '95 300tdi es disco with aircon - presumably the capacity is 11L?
 
No idea of the capacity I'm afraid. But you can get a coolant concentration tester for very little money from any motor factors. A good investment I think (although I have 2 and I have never used either of them!).
 
I wouldn't use the blue antifreeze it's is rubbish and only last a couple of months before you have to replace it again I only use long life in any vehicle I work on well worth the extra money never had a problem in the last 12 years

Really? I have never heard of that before. You must have bought some really really poor stuff...

What I will add to this is that you need to make sure you get the right antifreeze for your engine. I don't think the more modern OAT based stuff is good for older engines.
 
OAT-style anti-freeze has been known to corrode aluminium engine parts.

On TD5 for example, the elbow on the front right side of the head head is a classic for this.
 
OAT? Hmm.. all I know is that I usually by blue stuff (MEG) from the local car factors...
