How messy is it to convert a 70s Rangie to the P38 spec ZF box?

I have a suspicion that the shape of the transmission tunnel could be problematic?
 
what do you mean by p38 spec hp 22 are similar whether govenor controlled or ecu,dont fancy chrysler 3 speed its contemporary

The HP 24 is tougher than the 22, but I guess both have same fittings?

Didn't the P38 lose the separate Hi/Lo stick as well that was in the Classic HP 22 box?

I imagine that fitting either is very similar if not the same, so would discover the same issues when ditching the original 4 speed manual.
 
strength isnt going to be an issue on v8, the 4 speed autos only got problems with the advent of diesel autos
 
It won't be an issue as it will be an uprated box from Ashcroft to handle the 400 BHP :D

But, model or power or strength isn't an issue.

I'm just supposing that as the vehicle is an early manual then there could be big work to convert to auto.
 
no...easy..different pedal box..abit of electrics for no starty in gear etc,.i guess (hope) you gonna go for electronic control of gearbox,thus allowing flappy or nas car style semi manual gearshift??

re trans tunnel..lt95 is fecking large,i recon anything will fit under it..(mind you i got a body lift..)but even if dont (and auto box quite small) tunnel modding is school boy metal work..
 
oh...all high/low ratio and diff lock fuctions are done on transferbox...you will have to use lt230 if you want diff lock,or bw version if want viscous...

you cant use p38 transferbox as its "upside down/reversed".(props wrong side)

which in turn means abit of matching on the gearbox to make the 24 elecy version fit..dave at ashcroft done loads..

please use ashcroft...his gearbox still perfect..wear as 6 before dead..

It will be an Ashcroft box and their Compushift system.

One thing that JE do with the drivetrain (and I'm using them for the Quaife rear diff and uprated shafts and springs etc) is they pin the front diff.

I know you played around with your diffs, what is the upside of pinning the front?

The Overfinch didn't have hi/lo and I never needed it on the others. I can't see it having any purpose on a fast road car?
 
depends on what you mean ,but 4 pin diff is much stronger than 2 ,and fitting bolts through diff case to stop crown wheel flex is another
