Yes I did , surely that is the same a disconnecting the Battery
Nope, not exactly touching pos and neg leads together powers down every thing but dont forget to let the satnav go to sleep or you will kill it. Bonnet open, tail gate open, key in pocket wait for satnav go to sleep do not open a door or the sat nav will wake up again, touch leads together for few seconds then reconnect battery start car and do the steering wheel twirly thing to reset suspension done.

Yes I did that much earlier to this thread but will try again .i think when you say tailgate open you mean shut, my bonnet button is permamently shut .Yes and shut down system

No tailgate open and panel off left side so you can watch light go out on sat nav.

found it, instructions for use of code is in the range rover audio tv &navigation system book publication no. lrl 0457eng 2nd edition, and on page 9 are instructions for emergency deactivation.
 
That picture is part of the manual that appears in the Gapiid diagnostic, I don't know how to implement it
