Hi just got a 300tdi 1998(s reg)
Can the clutch be adjusted ,as it is right at the botttom of the pedal or will it need a new clutch?( how much?)

Now I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure most clutches have some adjustment mechanism. Do you have an owners manual? Do you know what is behind your clutch pedal? what it pushes etc. its usually there somewhere...Are you talking about the biting point of the clutch? Has it always been like that? are you a handy hands on mechanical type? Am i asking too many questions? Where am I....

I saw one this very evening that had run the clutch fluid reservoir dry and was doing exactly what yours is doing.

FIRST thing to do is to fill up the fluid reservoir. Sounds like it is nearly empty.
They are VERY prone to this.


Then pump the pedal a few times, and by tomorrow it should be OK.

Usually they do not need to be bled, but even if they do it's no big deal.

Yes it covers most things, but the LR rave manual is a must also.

I had this problem and it was the nuts on the push rod had slipped up, so when I pushed the pedal it was taking a while before it pushed the rod inwards.

Undo the 6 screws on top of the clutch box in the engine bay, and see where the nut (there should be two, one to lock it) is in relation to arm (without pressing the clutch) if the gap is large there there is excess travel and might not leave enough travel of the pedal before it disengages the clutch. Mine has about a 16th of an inch before it comes into contact with the rod.
