its done it again
had to get the A.A.man out last night as clutch pedal went to the floor (no fluid) no pressure
no sign of a leak around the cylinder i couldnt understand it
but the man said its sure to be leaking inside and fluid is going in to the gearbox
ive never changed on before any hints or tips would be great

It's piece of ****, make sure you don't pull the push rod out of the operating arm when you take the cylinder off the clutch cover it's a reet **** to get it back in again. Bleeding can be a pain. Try doing a search there's loads of stuff on here.
 
just a curious question. i've been thru over 4 changes on the master pump and none on the slave pump, how do i know when it's going to fail or start giving me problem?

when the master pump leaks in on the floor board i know it's time, however the slave pump doesn't seem to have any of these symptoms and it's over 5yrs in age. starts to get me worried.
 
if it leaking into the bell housing yer should see signs of it dripping out the hole at the bottom unless yer got yer wading bung in there.
 
aye thats where mines dripping from . have ordered a new one from craddocks not dear 7 to 8 quid + vat n postage hope it comes tomorrow so i can get it fitted on tuesday

On the master cylinder there is a little seal at the front. If this goes, there will be no leak but the fluid will just circulate around the master cylinder. The fluid often makes a squishing noise as it does that. I have changed many master cylinders and only about one slave cylinder, and that was on a 2.8i M52 BMW engined version where the slave is almost touching the exhaust pipe.

We don't fit new master cylinders either OEM or Britpart or whatever. We get them resleeved in stainless steel and then they last.
 
so hows it circulate around the master cyl?
shirley it mainly stays put and the seal/piston pushes throught it with minimal fluid displacement. the only movment will be the fluid seeping past the seal as the seal/piston moves either forward or backward. hardly wot yer'd call circulating
 
talking about clutch master cylinders i've got a lot of black gungy stuff in my master cylinder any ideas what this cam be

hi all i started at 10.30am
to swap over slave cylinder and got finished at 3.30pm for somthing with only two bolts it was awkward fu*K n awkward, the brake pipe nut was worn flexi hose bolt was rusted even with a wee bit of heat it had me and the father in law cursing and the spanners were to long ect ect but it is sorted now i hope

no a hell of a job ended up undoing the bleed screw and just let it flow through its not perfect but all the gears work but will need to get under it again and give it a good pump through

Normally the little seal at the front of the m/c is stuffed and the fluid is circulating around the cylinder from the reservoir into the cylinder and back to the reservoir (as I said before) The fluid pressure does not eventually go down to the slave and the clutch stops working.
