When I replaced the clutch on my old 90 I asked for a HD one from MM4x4 ... I ended up with an AP clutch kit and a ****part HD fork. I was told that ****part were the only manufacturer of the HD fork unless I wanted a standard one and weld a plate on myself. As for the clutch kit itself I got the impression there was no such thing as a HD one and it was just the fork!

The greater surface area the more friction can be exerted from the same psi so more grip, also it will wear slower with the same load.

Yes but the difference between those 2 discs is minimal :) The amount of material width looks similar anyway, its just on a larger diameter.

Its the pressure plate that makes the bigger difference :)

std clutch is fine on a tdi ,if your going to fill bell housing with mud and water hd clutch wont help

Would it not last longer when used off road alot? I trial my disco and have noticed the clutch is no as sharp as it was. Would it be worth going HD or just stick with a deasent std clutch?

id fit hd for heavy towing but not specifically for off roading ,muddy water is going to kill it before it wears out ,std clutch arent a weak point unless worn out through age imo

Nice one you've put my mind at rest and saved me some money, cheers james

Took the old clutch out last night and it dint look bad, looked fine but for some reason had been slipping on longer journeys, only thing I noticed was as soon as we opened it up it stunk of burning clutch.its a valo clutch and the date on the old plate is 25-1-06

Anyway it's having a new clutch here's new and old

Any hot spots on the flywheel? if its got loads of deposits on it might be worth having it either skimmed or just cleaned up with some wet & dry :)

Otherwise the new clutch will be just the same :(

No flywheel looks good, could it not be the pressure plate? That and the fork and bearing look and feel very warn but the clutch plate looks good. So I'm thinking someone might have just changed the clutch plate in the past and nowt eles.
