I’m back
im looking to replace the clutch on me 200 disco soon

im after a heavy duty clutch but all the clutches that seem to be heavy duty just have a clutch fork with the extra bit welded on.

is there any clutch that is truly hd ?
 
I've just bought one, came from gwyn Lewis, he said its a hd one its bigger than normal or something, anyway its what he runs in his challenge truck, £110 plus delivery including a new hd fork,

Although mines a 300 don't know if there's a diffrence.

I just went through al this with mine WLM, Although i cant be 100% for your 200TDI i found that there isnt anyone who does one apart from britpart :eek:

brookwells say they do one. Try HERE About 8th item down, there is 3 kits i think and then there is what looks like a HD clutch fork.

See if thats any good.
 
V8 Clutch? Proper cast unit, not pressed/welded plate ...

Think the V8 also has a larger flywheel and clutch plates/springs ... can't remember 'cos not seen one for a while.
 
would a racing clutch or paddle clutch be any better??? :confused:
 
I'm confused, ( it don't take much)

At the last pay and play I went to on the way home the 1st full throttle and everyone after the clutch slipped, got home and removed my wading plug from the bell housing and it was bone dry,

I've just rebuild my rear diff and done a rear bearing in prep of going to my mates tomorrow night to do the clutch,

Just bin for a quick spin as you do when you have done some work and my clutch ain't slipping, I've bin driving round for 20min and still not slipping,
 
Mines a 130 clutch whic is definitely bigger, more springs, more substantial pressure plate NGK bearing and the clutch fork with welded plate ect I see this being alot better than standard but I won't know until its all working again
 
I was gonna say I'm surs you can put a defender 130 clutch in, can this be confirmed? I've heard borg&beck clutches are meant to be good so was gonna put a b&b 130 clutch in me 300 disco as when I got it n was nieve n stoopid I had a britpart one put in... release bearing started making a noise after 6 months!!!

Yep fits straight in, mines a Valeo one though ;)
 
Borg&beck is what gwynlewis supplied me as a hd clutch, maybe he has sent me a 130 clutch then, ill check the part number tomorrow,

The friction material looks the same size to me. Stronger looking diaphragm springs though, which should help.
 
The friction plate doesnt really matter, what makes a clutch HD is the pressure plate and the force it applys to the disc :)

The greater surface area the more friction can be exerted from the same psi so more grip, also it will wear slower with the same load.
 
Im glad this threads popped up,same thing was going through my head as to what realy is HD clutch.
