Hi, can anyone advise me on the workings of my P 38 Clutch. leaving the house yesterday the clutch pedal seemed to be sticking in the down position, thought it was catching the rubber mat, did this a couple of times, then pulled up to a junction, dipped the clutch pedal and nothing, just sat there. pulled over,had a quick look underneath to see fluid pouring from around the slave cyl.

Got home and stripped off the slave cyl, orderd a repair kit from the local dealer. Arrived this morning, replaced the new seal, put it all back together and bled the system.

No joy!! the piston is coming out of the main body too far and fluid is leaking again.

Is there more underlying problems???

any advice greatly recieved

If your slave cylinder is pushing the rod out then you probably have linkage problem somewhere through to the thrust race, either disconnected or sheared, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings

Edited to say......... you may be able to see problem if you remove flywheel access cover but please make sure vehicle is well supported before getting under it.

Thanks for the advice, I shall have a look tomorrow see what I can find after removal of the access cover plate.

Is it a big job to replace clutch??

Is there any adjustment in the clutch? seems to be too much travel on the arm coming out of the clutch housing.
I can manually push the arm back into the slave, but it then comes straight back out.

Could there be a problem with master cyl??

It's hydraulic so no adjustment, slave cyl pushes rod forward so causing the release/thrust bearing to exert pressure on the pressure plate releasing the clutch, now if the fingers on the fork to the release bearing have become dislodged or something has sheared there is nothing to limit the fwd motion of the rod from the slave cylinder.

Thanks, got the idea now, had a wee look today and there is too much travel on the arm, so I guess it's a strip down and find out what's up.

hi m8,common fault on yours im afraid,in the bell housing theres a verticale rod from top to bottom of housing,located on the rod is the clutch fork,this is held in place by a roll pin through the fork and rod,the roll pin has probably sheered in two.gear box out im afraid.

Well at last I have her back on the road, new clutch fitted by local garage.
Turns out the two role pins had sheared, guy showed me the old clutch, fingers were worn on one side and pushing though on to the plate the rivets were being hit by fingers with half the width of rivet missing. Seem sto be fine noe, even 3 rd gear is easier to engage ( problem before if you rushed it therough the gate it would crunch) Only problem I have now seems to be a bit of vibration on tick over, and vibration through clutch when dipped, will have to keep an eye on this and take it back if it will not stop, perhaps the clutch needs bedding in!!
