Noticed today when i popped my bonnet after a drive that the black hydro fluid top tank had some bubbles coming out of the hole in the middle of the screw top.
Anything to be worried about, and checks i can make??

Something is very wrong ... fluid should not be black

and there should be no bubbles ...

Time for an investigation ...

by 'hydro' tank what exactly do you mean ?

Engine type may help. Sounds as if air is being drawn in somehwere

On an other fred he says " the 3.5 V8 on su's that i currently have" but he may have more than one vehicle ...

Its a V8 3.5 SU's, fluid is not black, its just the tank in the engine is a black pot

, it holds the fluid and i could see it was bubbling a bit of fluid out the top..

I think on mine its power steering and clutch fluid combined..

I wouldn't have thought that a power steering system uses hydraulic fluid but I don't know. Seems a bit strange to me.

Is it when the engine is running? I won't profess to know anything about your engine type but we can at least rule out the basics

And I assume its when steering wheel is at centre? I can't think as to why a clutch or pas system would draw air in when sitting at idle. Are you sure its the clutch/pas tank?

That's the cooling system expansion tank, unless you mean the round thing in front of that - not sure what that would be

On a Tdi that's where the fuel filter is - don't know for a V8

The round can is for the power steering fluid, and to bubble out of the vent hole means it has been over filled. When you take the top off there should be a dipstick built in to the top so you can check your power steering level.

Seems strange its only just done this, last time it would have been looked would have be the service 9 months ago ????

Ok, try this. With the engine turned off, take the top off the reservoir, have a look in the underside of the cap and you should see the dipstick. Use it to determine how much fluid is in the reservoir. The dipstick has level marks on it so you know what should be in there.

If the level is fine, then there is a problem else where in the system. Probably the psb.
