Lost the use of the clutch this morning .
Put my foot down to change gear and nothing happened couldnt move gear lever.I can select gears when engine is off but not when running .Checked the fluid resevoir it was empty as far as i could see so toppeed it up a bled it.Still no joy.The clutch is engaged so i am thinking the seals on either master or slave cylender have gone.Any thoughts.

replace both cylinders then bleed well... no matter which of them is gone ... if they are both old, putting any of them new, it will "kill" the old one in short time... u avoid one struggle with the bleeding this way.

Well got a replacement slave cyl going from the vin etc. And guess what the unit fits but the pipe fitting doesnt .Great

200tdi has imperial thread, 300tdi has metric thread.

Same unit, different thread. Check it!

Yeah that sounds like the problem just puzzeled as unit obtained is for a 200 and as i said matched via the vin unless my 200 has a 300 box in it unknown to me.

That's the thing though mate, they fit both boxes but the pipe is different.

Must just be wrong supply, who knows?

Well spent all day yesterday fitting new slave (thanks to a mate who came to help and pulled the push rod out, thats got to be the worse design i have ever come accross).
Bled it all up.Still no clutch..
I am getting to the limit of my ability and knowledge now.If it is the fork that has gone can i tell this without dropping the box as i dont think i can do this with the tools i have or work shop facilities (the street outside my front door).

first thing is to get somebody to press the clutch pedal while you watch the slave cylinder to see if its moving.

When i got it all back together and bled up to find out it still didnt work i slackened the slave off a fraction and tried that and the cyl moved up against the bolts so i assumed it was working.By the way reading some other posts on the subject the push rod does stick out about an inch and a half and the arm inside seems solid

Well slave cyl def works ok . No resistance on pedal when the slave is out of the housing but plenty when its all put back together.
