My 200tdi engine had been stood for a while before i put it into me defender.

The clutch plates had stuck together as a result and needed to be broken free once i got the engine running.

Its all free now and working, however, when setting off (In first) i get a noisey whiring/grinding noise at the bitting point until the clutch fully engages.......

Is this simply because of the plates were once stuck together and have made a rough/notchy surface? Will it become less noisey when the plates wear in and make a smother surface again?

Cheers, Scott

It might do ? , the damper plate and springs where prob siezed together and its slowly working itself free again .....

fingers crossed mate .

It could also be the clutch release bearing but this would be noisy in all gears when the clutch pedal is depressed.

It's either going to sort its self out, stay like this an work, or disintegrate it's self. Only time will tell.

I know there expensive but it may well have been worth taking the plates off the fly wheel and freeing them / replacing it before you put the engine in!

Yeah cheers guys il just have to wait and see. I did put a new release bearing in so hopfuly the plates will smooth off a bit! Fingers crossed
