Hi everyone, I took my S3 lightweight for a longer than usual drive at the weekend and on the way home I started finding that there was a weird clunky noise when I changed gear, and I could also feel it rattling up through the gearstick.
Around the same time I started getting a bit of a burning smell coming from somewhere, which after a while became quite strong.
I've never really messed around with gearboxes etc so I'm hoping maybe I just need to top up some oil or something, but that seems a bit too simple...

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.

Get underneath and change oils, grease u/j's etc....simply because you should!

Aside from that it sounds like your handbrake is binding

Cheers for the quick reply. Admittedly I am a bit lazy with the routine stuff... fair point.
The burning smell I can understand but would the binding handbrake cause the rattling too?

If the handbrake is dragging even only slightly it will clank around like all buggery. It should be possible to get it set up so that it will hold you on a very steep hill and not drag using the 1/4" adjuster on the backplate.

Ok brilliant, that sounds like it might be the explanation. Luckily the handbrake is one thing I have messed around with in the past. It was totally seized on when I first started working on the landy so had to free it up and adjust it etc.
Fingers crossed...
Cheers mate.
