I recently got a 200 tdi disco, all being fine until the last few days.

When pulling off there is a clunking sound, this may b e obviuos to some of you but i was hoping you could point me in the right direction???

the noises are there right up to fourth gear then they seem to go?

Also they are only there on accelaration through the gears, they go if coasting or breaking.

i am thinking along the lines of the uj's on the drive shafts but not completely sure. any thought or advice would be great.

Cheers !!!

Get underneath and check your uj's. Then have a look at all your suspension bushes and the rear a-frame ball joint.

Yes they're very cheap and pretty easy to fit. If you've got a haynes manual it''l tell you all you need to know. Parts'll cost about 30 quid for all four.

but before you go and buy a load of UJs make sure there is no play in the propshaft splines, if there is you'll have to replace the whole propshaft (which is only about £55 or so each and includes the UJs fitted and ready to go, bolt one off and bolt the other on, fairly easy job). ANY play whatsoever in the splines will manifest itself as a kind of grinding vibration noise.

Found the prob guys !!!!
Front shaft has has a collapsed uj !! Gearbox side, i have just found some play from wher it connects, What problems will the play cause once the uj is changed?????

If it's "play" from the transfer box, that's pretty normal and don't really matter too much! If it's play within the shaft itself (see above!) then it has to be replaced. (which it's almost worth doing anyway as the new prop comes with the UJs and flanges already done and then you'll know it's new and OK for a while!)
