I got my car back from the garage the other day after having work done on the transfer box and gearbox.

Now, when I take my foot off the accelerator and push the clutch in (coasting) I can hear some fairly loud clicking coming from under the car.

I'm assuming it's because of the work I have had done.

has anyone had a similar problem?

the gearbox and transfer box were split, the transfer box had some new oil seals put in, then they were put back together (as far as I am aware).

T/Box looks like it is still leaking oil too!
 
was front prop split at the sliding joint if not its unlikely props fitted wrong,as long as theres no play in ujs, the top bolt on rhs securing g/box to t/box just behind hi/lo lever on t/box can be the wrong bolt ie too long, it should be the shortest of bolts securing the 2 boxes,oil from t/box would most likely be from intermediate shaft not input oil seal

I don't know, i didn't do the work.

oil is on brake drum, as well as the bottom of the transfer box.

I'll be taking it back to the garage to get sorted.

So, if that bolt (the long 1) has been put into that hole, would it make the clicking sound when coasting?
 
could be a few things you just need to eliminate each one ,is it an auto ,ive known the cable incorrectly refitted()usually where cable clamps at the mount) causing park brake to rub it clicks too

Hi James, bit of an update.

Went back to garage last night and got it up on the ramp to have a look for oil leak, defo coming out in-between where the gearbox and transfer box join.

Took the car for a spin and clicking sounds like it is coming from the front drivers wheel?

The intermediate shaft is part of the transfer box. Basically there are 3 sets of gears in that box, the input gears, intermediate gears, and output gears. The intermediate gears sit on a shaft that goes front to back in the box, it's got an o-ring at either end where it sits in the casing. These o-rings are prone to 'getting shaved' during fitting and when they go hard they usually start to pass oil....

The shaft gets drawn out from the front side of the box in order to replace the o-rings, unfortunately without splitting the box from the gearbox there's no access to do this.

Thanks for that pdf, thats awesome!

looks like I might be stripping down the front axel diff and the t/box ... if thats the case, then maybe its time to fit diff lockers, my 2" lift and my bigger wheels / tyres!
 
The bolt that James mentions can be eyeballed by removing the inspection plate (have to drain oil first), you'll clearly see it interfering with the gears if the wrong length one's been used - hopefully it's not knocked the corners off the teeth (assuming that it's the source of the clicks!).

can the bolt be seen in the pdf you sent me?
 
The hole for it can, it's just above the number 27 on that same page, bottom of the three in a triangular pattern - on the vehicle the gearbox will be sat over that area so you'll probably have to use a torch to be able to see it.
